I must admit that I have not gotten very far this week in my GAME plan. I did do some research this week concerning how to incorporate SmartBoards into the art room. I was very surprised to find huge communities of teachers who post stories and great ideas for how to use SmartBoards into their classrooms. There are even communities just for art teachers who use SmartBoards. I was amazed!
I do need to consider monitoring my GAME plan a bit. Getting software for my computers for this school year is probably not an attainable goal at this point. I would like to do more research of available materials out there and possibly try to obtain a grant to purchase the technology. I definitely know that our district will not be able to help with these costs.
I have realized that the only way to get any of this accomplished though, is just by doing it. I tend to "overthink" things and am a perfectionist, but not in a good way. It tends to get in the way of accomplishing anything. Kind of the thinking of "I can't do it until I know exactly what I am doing and everything is absolutely perfect, because I don't want to look like an idiot!" I just need to jump in and learn as I go and not worry about not knowing everything beforehand.
There are always new questions that I have about so many things...I don't even know where to start. I think that right now my biggest question is "What exactly am I trying to accomplish and what is the most important thing that I want to accomplish right now?" I know that this is what our GAME plan is about, but I feel that right now I need to focus in on one particular thing and go from there-little steps rather than large ones at this point.
Have a great holiday everyone! Don't eat too much tomorrow!

Susan,
ReplyDeleteGreat post here! I love your honesty. It is so easy to get caught up in the "planning" of everything and overthinking. I think that the end of your post is crucial, when you say, "I need to focus in on one particular thing and go from there." That is something I have been working on myself. It is important to prioritize all the items on your to-do list and work on them little by little. Looks like you're doing well; keep up the great work!
Susan,
ReplyDeleteI am also looking at taking workshops and finding out more about SmartBoards. Did you just use a search engine to find posts about how to use a SmartBoard? Is there a particular website that you would recommend that would be very helpful with understanding the use of a SmartBoard?
Take your time figuring out what is most important in your GAME plan. It will come to you. You will figure out what goals are attainable and which ones will take a longer period of time. Once you do that then you can prioritize.
Good luck!
Jessie,
ReplyDeleteI am actually part of a community of art teachers that post comments and share questions and best practices with each other from all over the world. One of the most recent posts was about smartboards and I thought Great! Just what I was looking for. I will share the sites on Tuesday with everyone- they are on my school email, which I can't access from home. One more day of vacation! Thanks, Susan
